It was a rainy day at the BB&T Pavilion, for the first installment of the Radio 104.5 10th Birthday show on Saturday, May 13. The fans didn’t seem to mind the lousy weather with a star packed lineup featuring PHTMS, Rag’n’Bone Man, The 1975, Fitz and The Tantrums, Bastille, Empire of the Sun, and Kings of Leon gracing the stage at BB&T.
PHTMS, a local band from Philly started the show off and received a warm welcome from the audience.
Rag’n’Bone Man followed next, bringing his soulful voice to the stage playing some of his popular songs like ‘Human’, and ‘Skin’. Rag’n’Bone Man is stoudt fella but that didn’t stop him from feeling the vibe and breaking out a few dance moves before finishing strong with ‘Hell Yeah’.
Rag’n’Bone Man Set List:
Wolves
Ego
The Fire
SKin
As you Are
Human
Bitter End
Hell Yeah
Fitz and the Tantrums burst onto the stage and right into their first song, ‘Get Right Back’. Lead Singers Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs are a dynamic duo, oozing sex appeal on stage. Fitz and Scaggs danced the night away leading the crowd through their unmistakable blend of neo-soul with blaring jazz horns and funky basslines. Scaggs introduced herself to the audience as “the bossy bitch of the band who wants everyone’s hands up in the air for this next one called ‘Roll UP’”. A thunderous call and response clap session shook the Pavilion with one their last songs ‘Handclap’. The crowd sang along and kept their eyes glued to the stage. With a set list packed with ridiculously catchy choruses, we could have sung along all night.
Fitz and the Tantrums Set List:
Get Right Back
Spark
Out of My League
Run it
Roll It
Complicated
Moneygrabber
Burn it Down

The Walker
The smell of ‘Chocolate’ hung in the air as The 1975 hit the stage, to the sound of love struck women’s piercing screams. The 1975 was a clear crowd favorite and who can blame them with a frontman like Matty Healy. The 1975 played Hits like ‘Love Me’ and ‘UGH!’ from their new album with Healy dancing around the stage. It was evocative of Michael Hutchinson from INXS and the ladies of all ages went wild. Matty Healy captured the audience’s hearts and pulled them close making them feel the romance of his lyrics. The 1975 don’t just put on a show they give the audience an experience to remember. During ‘The Sound’, a few bras and roses were thrown on stage. The 1975 made a graceful exit with the sound of the crowd still roaring behind them.
The 1975 Set List:
The 1975
Love ME
UGH!
Heart Out
A Change of Heart
Loving Someone
Somebody Else
Girls
Sex
If I Believe You

The Sound
Nobody puts on a show like Empire of the Sun! Empire of the Sun’s live show is a mix between a electropop experience and anime program. Frontman Luke Steele emerged from a cloud of fog with his crown and tentacle shoulder pads. EOTS broke into their signature blend of dreamy electropop with their first song ‘Friends’. The band had everyone transfixed as they led them on an adventure of sight and sound. The backup dancers and pageantry was truly incredible to watch throughout the performance. Everyone in the building danced along to smash hit ‘Walking on a Dream’. A chaotic ending featured Steele throwing guitars into the air and using them as jackhammers, whacking them into the bass drum, before smashing not 1, not 2, but 3 guitars. Steele then double fisted the mics and sang ‘Alive’ before disappearing into a cloud of fog, exiting in the same mysterious and theatrical manner in which they had entered. All in all, it was a very entertaining set.
Empire of The Sun Set List:
Friends
DNA
Way to Go
We are the People
Two Vines
High and Low
Swordfish Hotkiss Night
Walking on a Dream
Tiger by My Side
Alive
Bastille, another crowd favorite and returning Radio 104.5 Birthday show performer, brought big energy to the stage. Frontman Dan Smith danced around, ricocheting off the stage and into the pit for ‘Flaws’. This show for Bastille was very sentimental for the band. “We played Philly in 2013 and got to do a Radio 104.5 session, thank you, you’ve been so good to us,” Smith told the crowd. Showing off his sense of humor, he continued, “I’m an incredibly bad dancer so I am asking for your help on this next one so I can feel cool for at least the next two minutes”. Bastille kept the energy up for a rain soaked crowd with an even set of songs from ‘Bad Blood’ and new album ‘Wild World’ with a song thrown in from their ‘First Mixtape’ before ending with mega-hit, ‘Pompeii’.
Bastille Set List:
Send Them Off!
Bad Blood
Warmth
Flaws
Things We Lost in the Fire
Fake It
Good Grief
Of the Night
Blame
Pompeii
Kings of Leon didn’t waste anytime leaping into a wonderfully crafted set of new and older material that invoked an emotional response from the audience who sung along to each and every word. Kings of Leon’s new album, ‘Walls’, showcases just how versatile the band is as they add new paints to their sonic palette with each release. KoL was well received from older fans and the younger audience alike. With songs like ‘Wait a Moment’, ‘Radioactive’, and ‘Notion’, all set to pyro firing in the background, the setlist Kings of Leon rolled out was the perfect ending to the magical concert. ‘Sex on Fire’ was understandably the song that Kings of Leon chose to end a wonderful night of music, friendship, and celebration.
Kings of Leon Set List:
Waste a Moment
The Bucket
Mi Amigo
Radioactive
Mary
Find Me
On Call
Supersoaker
Crawl
Pyro
