We arrived at The Fillmore on Sunday, January 14th for a packed Passion Pit show. ‘Slenderbodies’ was setting up while we were arriving. The California- based duo ended up being a great new discovery for us. Mixing in intricate guitar work and sonically airy vocals, the band was a perfect fit for the Passion Pit crowd. There was an atmosphere of eager anticipation with this being the band’s first major tour in almost 5 years.

Michael Angelakos arrived on stage in his usual outfit shortly after 9:30. Dressed in his typical slim-fit collared shirt and tie; Angelakos didn’t waste time reminding us why we first fell in love with his rollercoaster falsetto voice. After playing a quick intro the set transitioned into a hit-filled trip through Passion Pit’s catchy single filled catalog: starting with favorites ‘I’ll Be Alright’ and ‘Sleepyhead’.

Once Passion Pit had the crowd on their feet; they never let off of the gas. Angelakos never stopped running and jumping with a level of energy and intensity that exhausted us from just watching him. Their 16 song set was a dynamic look at fan favorites while opting out of playing songs off their intimate new record ‘Tremendous Sea of Love’. The new record; released in mid 2017 and was a huge step forward for the band creatively.

Passion Pit then finished strong with ‘Constant Conversations’ and the bittersweet yet appropriate ‘Take a Walk’. After which we, appropriately, took a walk out into the cold Philadelphia night, still warm from basking in the glow of one of our favorite bands, back at it after a long hiatus.
