We recently had a chance to travel to Mount Pocono, PA to spend a weekend checking out the Mount Airy Casino Resort, Pennsylvania’s first AAA Four Diamond-rated casino. The drive was easy, taking less than 90 minutes from Philadelphia (and NYC).

While the 18 hole golf course wasn’t open for the Winter season, we were thrilled with our prospects for gambling, entertainment, relaxation, and fine dining.

Check in was a breeze (including the complementary valet parking) and our well appointed suite served as the perfect jump-off spot for the rest of the facility.

While we couldn’t photograph the casino floor, the over 1,800 slot machines and 80 table games were impressive and offered something for everyone from the novice penny-slot player to card games in the high-roller area.

The salon/spa offered a wide range of services from massages to a full hair salon set up to accommodate a single patron or entire bridal party. The indoor pool (titled ‘Get Wet’), which connects to an outdoor pool in the warmer months, boasts its own bar, cabanas, and a stage area for DJs. There is also an excellent fitness center for those who don’t want to take time off from their exercise regimen. Because the weather was overcast and chilly, we briefly left the resort to head to the nearby premium outlets to do a little shopping.

The biggest excitement came at meal time! We ate our breakfasts in Guy Fieri’s Mt. Pocono Kitchen, our lunches in the buffet, and split our two nights of dinners between the aforementioned Guy Fieri’s and Bistecca by Il Mulino. While we enjoyed our meals at Guy Fieri’s, it was the dinner at Bistecca by Il Mulino that really stood out. The staff there is top-notch, the bartender made one hell of a hemingway daiquiri, and our meals were to die for. Everything from the rich lobster bisque, to the perfectly cooked steaks, to the plate-licking desserts exceeded expectations. While we enjoyed our entire stay at the resort, this dinner was truly the highlight!

After dinner, Gypsies Nightclub and bar was the place to spend the latter part of our evening. On many weekends there are top-notch comedians or musicians performing but you don’t need a headliner at Gypsies to enjoy some drinks and dancing.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mount Airy Casino Resort and look forward to returning there in the Summer when the golf course is open, the nature trails are in full bloom, and the resort offers some exciting outdoor entertainment!
