We hit the road on Saturday, July 26th for some good times and sweet rides, courtesy of Chevrolet, at Hershey Park. Our ride to and from Hershey was a breeze in our 2014 Chevy Impala. The air conditioned seats were ideal keeping cool in mid-Summer and the Bose speakers and Sirius/XM radio helped provide the perfect soundtrack for our adventure. Although we chose to leave our bulky/heavy camera gear behind, we were armed with our smart-phone cameras to help document the trip.

Once we arrived at Hershey Park, we hit the parking lot outside of the main gate where Chevrolet had set up a fun test driving event that allowed attendees unlimited test drives in any/all of the Chevy fleet of cars and trucks. Because Chevy is more popular in the mid-west than it is here on the East Coast, these events serve as a great way to introduce folks in the region to the Chevrolet brand. At the end of the day, many people walk away with a new appreciation for their cars and trucks.

We first got behind the wheel of the Chevy Volt and were surprised by the amount of pick up and acceleration that the electric car had. The lower operating cost and reduced carbon footprint are also welcomed perks.

Up next we had to take a Corvette out for a spin. This thing was no joke. We haven’t been behind the wheel of a car with that much power before it’s easy to see why sports car enthusiasts fawn over this car. We would have loved to take this thing out on the open road and really open it up but it was fun to even have a small taste of what this car can do. It’s also very easy on the eyes.

Finally we popped into a Spark, the smallest car in the Chevy fleet. While this car didn’t have a ton of acceleration, it proved to be a sweet little ride for the price tag. Living in downtown Philadelphia, we also appreciate the ease of parallel parking and the safety of the numerous air-bags. In addition to the Impala, we’ve also had the pleasure of spending a week in a Chevy Traverse and can honestly say we love what Chevrolet is putting on the road these days.

When we were finished test driving cars, it was time to hit Hershey Park (and the attached Zoo) to see some animals, ride some roller-coasters, and of course, eat some Hershey’s chocolate! We made sure to also do the Hershey factory tour before we left the park for the day (and you get some free chocolate at the end).

Hershey, PA has a lot to offer and we spent the evening at the Troeg’s Brewery where we sampled some delicious beer and food before heading to the movies to see ‘The Purge 2’ (which, as expected, was pretty awful, but it was the only thing playing after 10pm).

The next day we made our way to the Indian Echo Cavern to see one of the area’s natural wonders before heading back to Philly in our Impala. It was a fun-filled weekend and a great reminder of all of the fantastic road-trips that you can easily make from Philadelphia.
