October 18, 2025 – Twenty-five years after the release of The Sophtware Slump, Grandaddy hit the stage at a packed Union Transfer in Philadelphia to close out their anniversary tour celebrating the landmark album. Founding members Jason Lytle (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Aaron Burtch (drums), and Jim Fairchild (guitar) were joined by Jim Putnam (keyboards, samples) and Nik Freitas (bass, backing vocals), performing the record front to back with the same understated precision that made it timeless.

But the album isn’t stuck in nostalgia or obsessed with a dark future—it lives in the uneasy space between the two. We entered a new digital age, but people stayed the same. Surrounded by gadgets, data, and constant connection, there’s still that feeling of isolation and loss. Released in 2000, it captures that strange “January 2, 2000” moment—when the big technological leap finally arrived and somehow everything still felt exactly as it did before.

Twenty-five years later, The Sophtware Slump still feels current—a reminder that even as technology moves forward, we’re all still trying to catch up.
