It was another hot Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia for the rubber game in the series between the Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays.

The games, originally scheduled to be played in Toronto, were moved to Philadelphia amidst concerns about the G-20 summit taking place in Canada’s largest city.

The Blue Jays were technically the home team (the Canadian flag was flown from the tallest flag pole, the Phillies wore their road uniforms and batted in the top half of the inning, and DH’s were used for the pitchers) but the Phillies clearly had the advantage as Philly fans packed Citizen’s Bank Park for all three games (numbers which were applied to Toronto’s attendance numbers).

Jamie Moyer, the ageless wonder, took the mound for the Phillies and it didn’t take long before he was pitching with a nice lead.

The Phillies scored four runs in the top of the second inninng and Moyer was masterful in his third straight start pitching seven strong innings.

Moyer gave up one homerun which would have been otherwise unnoteworthy except for the fact that it earned him a major league record . Moyer has now allowed the most career homeruns by a pitcher in MLB history.

Had the fan that caught the ball realized it, he might have held onto it and sold it on Ebay, but in true Philadelphia fashion he tossed it back onto the field (during what was technically a home game for Vernon Wells, the player who hit it).

The Phillies scored several more times in the game and combined with four Toronto errors, it paved the way for an 11-2 “road” win.

Philadelphia finished 2010 with a winning 10-8 record in inter-league play.
