This past Thursday November 7th Boombox graced Philly with their presence during a show at the Blockley. Boombox was last been in Philadelphia last spring and when we heard that they were returning, we knew we had no other option but to head up to University City for what was sure to be an amazing show, filled with some awesome funky jams.
We arrived around 1030pm as we’d heard that Boombox would be taking the stage around 11pm. As soon as we walked in, the good vibes could be felt. We even had time to get a little taste of the opener, Ramona, who was playing some awesome tech house that really had the crowd grooving.
A little after 11pm Boombox took the stage. Russ Randolph came out in his signature top hat with Zion Rock Godchaux dressed in his typical pink boa and furry hat. At this point in the night the Blockley was packed with fans. The duo dropped several fan favorites such as ‘Stereo’ and ‘Who Killed Davey Moore’ from their ‘Visions of Backbeat’ CD.
As it was a Thursday night, we expected the show to end around 1230am, but to our surprise, Boombox played until around 130am. Clearly they had not expected such a turnout in Philadelphia and decided to reward their fans with over two hours of funk fueled grooves. Fans danced for the entirety of their performance and clearly everyone had a stellar Thursday night (even better than expected). We can’t wait for Boombox to return!
