September 2, 2022 – VILLANOVA, PA — It was a warm end-of-summer twilight match between two local teams, but the outcome was the same as over the past decade – a blowout Wildcats win over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 45-17.
The season and home opener brought out the Nova Nation masses, with a jammed and swaying student section that enjoyed every minute.
After a very close 1st quarter with Nova leading only 3-0, Junior QB Connor Watkins, was 11 of 15 and threw for almost 300 yards. Two big scoring completions went to Dez Boykin (66 yds) and Jaaron Hayek (68 yds.)
Watkins’ favorite receiver for the night was Hayek, who grabbed a total of 6 passes for 141 yards and 2 TDs. Watkins also ran for another score, supported by rushing TDs from DeeWil Barlee and Jalen Jackson.
Villanova’s next match is September 10 at Long Island University-Post.
