Villanova held its annual Blue vs. White basketball scrimmage on Saturday at the Pavilion. The Blue team fielded a starting lineup of Maalik Wayns, James Bell, Maurice Sutton, Markus Kennedy, and Dallas Ouanu. The White team started Mouph Yarou, Achraf Yacoubou, JayVaughn Pinkston, Darrun Hilliard, and Ty Johnson. Dom Cheek did not play as a result of nursing a minor hamstring pull.
The Blue team won the game 33-23. Blue, which held a 13-10 halftime lead, outscored the White team 9-2 to start the second half, taking a commanding 22-12 lead. Paced by Wayns 14 second half points, Blue kept the White team at bay to win the spirited scrimmage.
Wayns was the leading Blue scorer with 16 points. James Bell had 4, Mo Sutton 6, and Markus Kennedy had 7. Neither Ouano or Nick McMahon scored for the Blue team.
For the White team, Ach Yacoubou, who played a very energetic game, was the high score r with 10 points. Yarou had 6, Pinkston 3, and Johnson & Hilliard each scored 2 points.
Former Villanova standouts Randy Foye and Kyle Lowry were both on hand to watch the scrimmage which was part of Saturday’s homecoming festivities. Members of Villanova’s talented 2012 recruiting class were also in attendance.
The Wildcats play again at 7pm on November 8th at the Wells Fargo Center when they entertain NYIT in an exhibition game. The first game of the 2011-2012 regular season is on November 11th when the Wildcats entertain Monmouth at 7 pm at the Pavilion.
