October 12, 2019 – PHILADELPHIA — Temple Owls pulled off another upset win over a ranked team by beating the #23 Memphis Tigers 30-28 at Lincoln Financial Field. The Owls took advantage of four Tiger turnovers to hang on for the win. In addition to the cherry & white faithful, AAC league commissioner Mike Aresco was on hand to witness the close battle.

Temple dominated the 1st quarter with a TD run by Jager Gardner (21), and two Will Mobley (91) field goals. On the defensive side, Harrison Hand (23) contributed all day with 9 tackles and an interception. Quarterback Todd Centeio came in periodically throughout for the Owls to add another rushing dynamic to their game plan.

In the second quarter for Temple, Mobley added another field goal, and Anthony Russo (15) connected with Isaiah Wright (2) for a highlight-film touchdown hurdle. Memphis added 14 points from Damonte Coxie (10) and Kenneth Gainwell (19) to go into halftime trailing 14-23.

Memphis tallied the only score in the 3rd quarter on a 23-yard TD run by Kylan Watkins (17).

Temple started the fourth quarter scoring with a Russo pass to Mack. Memphis countered later with a Brady White (3) pass to Tyce Daniel (88) TD pass. After a controversial instant replay reversal of a critical Tiger first down, the game ended with the Owls on top.
