Temple Owls Crush Bucknell
August 31, 2019 – Philadelphia, PA — The Temple Owls kicked off their 2019 season at Lincoln Financial Field with an easy 56-12 win over the Bucknell Bison. Over 26,000 fans got to watch the Owls light up the scoreboard, setting a single-season record for offensive yards in a game with 695 total yards. The Bison’s only scores came from 3 field goals and pick-6, with a missed extra point.

Temple Junior QB Anthony Russo connected on a shovel pass to Jadan Blue to start the scoring in the first quarter. Jager Gardner scored next on an 11-yard TD run, and later punched in a 1-yard TD after Russo hit Blue with a 33-yard pass to set up Gardner.

Still in the second quarter, Russo completed a 12-yard score to Isaiah Wright in the corner of the end zone. Wright would have 8 catches for 68 receiving yards and 31 rushing. Just before the half, Russo connected with Freshman Re’Mahn Davis, who sprinted along the sideline for a 51-yards score.

In the 3rd quarter, Russo completed a 10-yard TD pass to Aaron Jarman , making the score 42-12. Following a 34-yard run by Wright, Davis scored again on a 7-yard run.

Backup QB Todd Centeio soon relieved Russo, but the Owls didn’t let up. Centeio connected with Travon Williams a long 89-yard touchdown. And the stingy Owl defense continue to shut down Bucknell to end the game at 56-12.

Temple’s next opponent is Maryland at home in the Linc.
