The Electric Factory belonged to ‘Taking Back Sunday’ over the weekend. The New York rockers returned to the Factory for a second consecutive night on Sunday evening (March 22nd) with support from ‘Let Live’ and ‘The Menzingers’. Unfortunately the drive back from Pittsburgh (where we’d been cover the NCAA tournament) took a little longer than expected and we weren’t able to make it in time for either opening act. Thankfully the rock Gods saw fit to have us arrive ten minutes before the headliners hit the stage at 9:15PM.
Touring in support of their 2014 album ‘Happiness Is’, the band opened with ‘Preface’, and ‘Flicker, Fade’ (which happen to be the first two tracks on the album) to a roar of cheers. Taking Back Sunday instantly commanded the crowd’s attention. From the kids moshing and crowd surfing on the lower level, to the 21+ crowd that packed the upper level (the lower level side-bar area was closed), it seemed that everyone was rocking out from the very first note.
Front man Adam Lazzara addressed the crowd several times, thanking them for coming out on a Sunday (which he joking referred to as “the Lord’s day) of all days, and asking the older crowd how much alcohol they were consuming upstairs, “That seems like the thing to do up there”, he said.
Their 19 song performance consisted of many of their newer songs as well as tracks from the five other studio albums they released between 2002-2011. They wrapped their set up with ‘It Takes More’. It’s not a rock show without an encore and after departing briefly, Taking Back Sunday returned to the stage for three more songs. The encore closed out on their biggest hit, ‘MakeDamnSure’.
Fans certainly got their money’s worth from Taking Back Sunday and it was the perfect way to close out the weekend… now if we could only find a way to take back this case of the Mondays.
