Second Half Shellacking Powers Temple Past Villanova in Big 5 Action

After trailing by four points at the half, the Temple Owls went on an 18-3 run at the start of the second half, to take a commanding lead, on their
way to a convincing 76-61 win over the Villanova Wildcats at the Pavilion on Wednesday evening. Spearheading the Owls’ offense was senior Scootie Randall with 21 points and Anthony Lee with 16 points.

With the win, the undefeated Owls record improved to 6-0 on the season, 1-0 in Big 5 play.
Villanova’s record fell to 4-4 , 0-2 in Big 5 action. For the Owls , it was their first win at the Pavilion since 1990.

Temple made seven of their first ten shots in the second half, while holding Villanova without a field goal for more than 10 minutes. Villanova’s stumble in the second half was also caused by numerous turnovers. Villanova ended up committing 20 turnovers in the game, 11 after the intermission.

For the Wildcats, James Bell was the leading scorer with 15 points. Tony Chennault, who sparked a small run in the second half, hitting three straight field-goals, chipped in 10 points. Villanova won the battle of the boards 31-26, with Jayvaughn Pinkston and Maurice Sutton each grabbing 6 rebounds. Randall paced the Owls with 7 boards. The Wildcats also shot a higher percentage from the field than the Owls (.447 % -.426%). Temple had 18 assists against 10 turnovers, Villanova, on the other hand, had only 9 assists to go with 20 turnovers.

Villanova returns to action Saturday evening December 8th against the Penn Quakers at the Palestra. The Owls will take on #2 ranked Duke at the Izod Center on Saturday afternoon.
