The stream of fans flowing into the Blockley Pour House in West Philadelphia last night was almost as steady as the heavy rain that was falling outside.
With everyone soaking wet but ready to dance themselves dry, the beer and good times flowed freely as a trio of opening acts, including locals Voss & LTC (as well as Abstract Verses), got the night started.
Around 11pm, the Blockley, and the smoking area outside under the awning, were packed as everyone anxiously awaited the arrival of headliner ?uestlove (from the legendary Roots crew & The Jimmy Kimmel show). It was at this time that Gary Clark Jr. took the stage.
Hot damn Gary Clark Junior! Where have you been my whole life? This guy is like concentrated musical talent. I’m pretty sure that even if we’d added about 6 cups of water to him, it still wouldn’t have diluted the show he put on last night. To say he stole the show would be akin to saying that the Philadelphia Eagles did well in free agency.
Please come back and play for us every single night. We’re not kidding. Do it.
The night was capped off by ?uestlove (who was joined on stage by MC Yameen Allworld). He traded in his drums for a set of turntables and treated fans to a set that he dedicated to his friend, the late Amy Winehouse. It was a musical journey that spanned over seven decades of music. It was a magical ride.
Just after 2am, we landed back in the year 2011 and it was time to head home. The rain had stopped and there was no ?uestion that we’d loved every minute of this night.
