The Philadelphia Passion kicked off their Lingerie Football League season at the Sun Nation Bank Center in Trenton, NJ on Friday night against the Tampa Breeze. The two teams met twice last season (in the regular season finale and the first round of the playoffs) with the Passion winning both games.
If the Breeze were looking to revenge the losses of last season, it didn’t show. The team suspended four starters prior to the game for poor off-season conditioning.
The Passion were all business as they looked to start off the season with a victory in an attempt to reach their second straight Lingerie Bowl.
Led by game MVP Marirose Roach (9 rushes for 103 yards and 5 TD), Philadelphia scored on their opening drive to take a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Roach would score three more TD’s in the first half (including an impressive 38 yard score) and the Passion led 26-0 at the break.
If there were any Tampa fans who believed that the gentle Breeze of the first half would escalate to stiff competition in the second half, they were quickly blown away. Roach scored her 5th TD of the game to extend Philadelphia’s lead to 32-0.
With just over four minutes left in the second half, Passion quarterback Christy Bell tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Stephanie Orgi, for the game’s only aerial score. The final score came moments later, again on the ground, when Jenny Butler ran the ball in from 10 yards out to balloon the lead to 48-0.
Philadelphia’s defense, spearheaded by Stephanie Roy, dominated Tampa from start to finish.
After the game, which appeared on MTV 2, the players signed autographs and posed for photos with fans.
Philadelphia’s next game comes on October 29th when they travel to Cleveland to face the Crush. Their November game will be played in Baltimore Charm on the 18th, and they return home on December 9th when they host the expansion Toronto Triumph.
