Penn State easily beats Purdue

October 5, 2019 – State College, PA — It’s always sunny in Happy Valley! Well not always – but Saturday was a beautiful day for football and Homecoming, capped off with a 35-7 win over Big-10 competitor Purdue.

Penn State piled it on in the first quarter, scoring 3 of their 5 touchdowns early in the game. The Boilermakers’ defense could not stop the potent Lions’ offense. After running for 16 yards, Sean Clifford then connected with KJ Hamler for a 23-yard TD pass. Clifford would go 20-29 for 264 passing yards and 33-yards rushing for the day, including a 48-yard catch and run to Nick Bowers (#83).

Hamler set up the second score with a 38-yard punt return putting the Lions in great field position on Purdue’s 33-yard line. The ensuing drive was capped off with a 3-yard TD run by Clifford.

On Penn State’s next offensive drive, Clifford launched a 72-yard catch across the middle to Jahan Dotson who bolted passed the defenders for the score.  On the other side of the ball, the Boilermakers had no answer for the swarming Lion’s defense, who seemingly pressured QB Jack Plummer on every play.

In the second quarter, Clifford quickly went to work and 6-plays later hit Ben Freiermuth for a TD.  Purdue’s defense then stiffened, and pressure on Clifford forced an interception by Simeon Smiley. Purdue capitalized on the turnover, first with a 43-yard pass from Plummer to David Bell. Plummer then hit Amad Anderson, Jr with a 15-yard pass to score their only points of the game.

Next up on the road for the Nittany Lions is Big-10 foe Iowa.
