Oh Say Can You See-I?

On Thursday night, music fans were treated to a special show at The Blockley in West Philadelphia. See-I, which features members of Thievery Corporation, rolled into town, ready to throw down a funky, jazzy, bluesy, rockin’ reggae good time.

The night started off with an opening DJ set by Rob Paine of Solomonic Sound who got the Blockley warmed up.

Shortly after 10pm, See-I took to the stage, encouraging those in attendance to press up close to the stage. The message was clear. Don’t SEE the show, BE the show.

See-I’s music is infectious and it’s instantly clear at their live shows that they feed off of the fans as much as the fans feed off of them. This is not the show for parasitic audience members; it’s a beautiful symbiotic concert experience.

Not only does See-I put on a stellar set, but they are some of the most humble, gracious guys around. We’ve spent time with them at their live shows and interviewed them earlier this week and they have nothing but love and admiration for their fans.

After leaving it all on stage for almost two hours (dancing, jumping around, sweating, and playing/singing their hearts out), they quickly cooled down backstage before returning to dance with the crowd during a 4 turntable set from Thunderball and Fort Knox Five. This was one of the funkiest upbeat sets we’ve heard in a long time. If you weren’t shakin’ it to these tunes than you’re obviously immune to Disco Fever.

All in all it was a great time. The only knock on the night was that more people didn’t show up to experience it. Those in attendance had an amazing time but the place was not as packed as it should have been for a such a quality show. Next time See-I rolls into town, get off your couch and support, Philadelphia. Yes, that means you.
