Midnight Conspiracy: Theory For a Great Night at The Barbary

Published On October 24, 2011 | Around Town, Concerts

It was Saturday night at the Barbary and the place was crawling with people. Well, not literally crawling. Despite the fact that it was the monthly party known as “Hands and Knees”, most of the people we encountered were walking around on two legs. If you want to get technical about it, no one was really standing. Instead, they were dancing their asses off.

DJ’s JHN RDN, Ian Saint Laurent,  and Jonny Sorber provided more than enough power to get the Barbary bumping, but a very special guest from Chicago, the Electro/House/Dubstep duo Midnight Conspiracy, was what had us ready to rage.

Having never seen Midnight Conspiracy live, we weren’t sure what to expect. Sure, their original tracks and remixes (Crystal Castles, Tiga, and Chromeo to name a few) are spot on, but could they stand and deliver on the 1’s and 2’s?

Just after 11:59pm (come to think of it, it was right around midnight) we got our answer. Was it a conspiracy? You bet it was. The chi-town duo and the packed house at the Barbary were all conspiring together…to have one hell of a time!

We danced, cheered, laughed, cried, laughed so hard we cried some more, and then laughed about it. It is no wonder that Midnight Conspiracy is on the fast track to super-stardom (as both DJs and producers).

Many DJs will simply bow out of the establishment after rocking the crowd, but not this duo. They joined the crowd for the remainder of the night at the Barbary, and then joined the after-hours crowd at a warehouse party in North Philly. As much as Philly loved Midnight Conspiracy, they loved us right back. We even have it on good authority that they flew all the way back to Chicago with some cheesesteaks. We can’t wait to see them again, no matter what time of day it is.
