March 6th, 2025 – From the opening song, “Feeling Gravity’s Pull,” to the encore of “Pretty Persuasion,” Shannon did justice to R.E.M.’s contribution to alternative rock.
Shannon is an Academy Award-winning actor who has had leading roles in Boardwalk Empire and The Shape of Water. His artistry on screen translated to a masterful interpretation of Michael Stipe, capturing his emotional intensity and vocals, which made for a deeply personal and immersive experience.

This isn’t the first time that he and Narducy (Superchunk) have paid homage to R.E.M. In 2023, the duo performed a successful tribute concert to the album that started it all, Murmur.
But this time around, they gathered an all-star ensemble—including the likes of Jon Wurster (drummer) of Superchunk, John Stirratt (bassist) of Wilco, Dag Juhlin (guitarist) of Poi Dog Pondering, and Vijay Tellis-Nayak (pianist) of Poi Dog Pondering—to perform the iconic album.
Although not the most well-known album, Fables of the Reconstruction is considered one of their most influential, marking an evolution from Murmur and Reckoning and creating a perfect segue into their groundbreaking album Life’s Rich Pageant, which would go on to have hits like “Fall on Me” and “Superman.”
The show was a collective thank-you note that lasted more than two hours. It was a homage to the band’s impact on culture and music and a rare chance to experience the magic of one of rock’s most groundbreaking albums.

If you get the chance to experience Michael Shannon & Jason Narducy and Friends live, don’t miss it! It’s an unforgettable celebration of music, friendship, and an opportunity to understand R.E.M.’s legacy.
