Not snow, nor sleet, nor freezing rain (nor a nor’easter) could keep fans away from Madison Square Garden on Saturday, February 9th, 2013. They packed in from across the city to see headliner Passion Pit with support from Matt & Kim.
Matt & Kim have crazy chemistry and energy on stage which is infectious to say the least. Their upbeat, synth & drum pop sounds didn’t just warm up the crowd, they got fans downright hot and bothered. Bouncing around the stage, and even walking on the crowd (forget crowd surfing), the dynamic duo pulled out all the stops as they dropped hits from their numerous albums.
Up next, Passion Pit took the stage to a loud roar of cheers at MSG.
Anxious, but ready to please a crowd that had braved the snow and multiple road closings to get to the World’s most famous arena (or as Billy Joel once called it, the “Holy Temple of Rock’ n’ Roll”), lead singer Micheal Angelakos didn’t waste any time kicking off their 16 song set, quickly electrifying fans with “I’ll Be Alright”.
Angelakos’s spastic dance moves and boyish amazement of where his career has taken him, were just as captivating and genuine as the first time we saw them four years ago. If there was doubt in anyone’s mind as to why exactly Passion Pit was headlining Madison Square Garden, those preconceived notions were erased before the first chorus.
Passion Pit’s time on stage seemed to fly by and before we knew it, they were exiting the stage. It took only moments before they returned to the stage for a one song encore, closing out the evening with arguably their biggest hit “Sleepyhead”.
