Bass Nation at Soundgarden Hall with Alvin Risk, Adam F and Architekt

Bass Nation returned to Philly Friday night, October 4th with headlining OWSLA DJ Alvin Risk.  The night featured supporting acts Adam F, Architekt and Mojo Risin.

Friday night was also significant because it was the first night that the venue, Soundgarden Hall, was permitted to serve alcohol, which is big news for anyone who frequents the club. Previously SGH had been a BYOB venue. The bar was fully stocked and featured about seven different draft beer options, including a few options from the Philadelphia Brewing Company.

Adam F, who was playing at Soundgarden Hall for his very first time, was the first DJ we caught once we arrived.  We have been big fans of Adam F since the heyday of the Drum and Bass scene in Philadelphia and it was great to see him return.  Adam F acted like his own hype-man on stage and played with a level of energy that is not always displayed by DJs.  He did a stellar job of getting the crowd into the music and bringing people down from the Hacienda Lounge, out onto the dance floor.

After Adam F it was time for the headliner of the night Alvin Risk to hit the stage.  Alvin walked up to the DJ booth dressed in dapper fashion, wearing a white button down, dress pants and a blazer.  He wasted no time turning the venue upside down with his spot-on song selection.

Alvin Risk has a large catalog of original mixes and remixes at his disposal.  If you haven’t listened to him, we suggest you take a peek at his Soundcloud page (  Something his novice fans may not know is that he is also a very talented singer who lends his own vocals to many of his songs.  You can always catch him with a microphone in hand, singing the lyrics to some of his songs during his set, which is something impressive and rare in the EDM scene.

Some of our favorite songs of the night had to be his remix to ‘Fun’ by Janelle Monae, his remix to ‘Firestarter’, his remix to Kaskade’s ‘Eyes’, and his original mixes ‘Empty Hearted’ and ‘Skyclad’.

When Alvin Risk finished his set around 150am, the crowd yelled loudly and begged for one more song.  But why give the fans what they want when you can give them even more? Alvin then dropped three more encore songs, finishing his set off with his remix to ‘Nemesis’.

Overall it was one of our favorite Bass Nation events in recent memory and we hope to see both Adam F and Alvin Risk return to Philly soon.
