Inkcredible! Philadelphia Tattoo Convention 03/26/2010
Independent Philly was in the house this afternoon for the opening day of the Philadelphia Tattoo Convention. The convention is being held at the Sheraton Convention Center at 17th and Race Streets and will be open Saturday and Sunday as well.
On the first floor of the convention (which is actually the second floor of the building) there was food being served as well as many vendors selling everything from funky clothing, to tattoo gear, to cool jewelry and art.
The second floor of the convention is where the real action takes place. Dozens and dozens of tattoo shops from all over the tri-state area (and far beyond) were set up to showcase their artists and tattooing skills. For those even more daring, there was also piercing and body modification available.
Nothing seemed too big or too small for the artists on hand. I saw everything from a tiny flower being inked on a woman with bright pink hair to a guy who was being covered from head to toe. Artists and their human canvases were on display for all to see. I was in awe of how talented many of these tattoo artists are. I myself have five tattoos but nothing that I’d call impressive. Some of the work I saw being done today would fall under the heading of masterpiece.
If you have tattoos, want tattoos, or just appreciate tattoos, you should get yourself down to the Philadelphia Tattoo convention this weekend. I plan to head back tomorrow to add another layer to this story…the first hand perspective of getting inked at the convention.
