June 30, 2019 PHILADELPHIA — Haiti (defeated Canada) and Mexico (defeated Costa Rica) on Saturday in Houston, TX to advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup Semi-Finals, and on Sunday, June 30th, 2019, the Quarter-Finals moved to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA. Jamaica defeated Panama 1-0 in the first game. The second match of the night, with a chance to face Jamaica in the Semi-Finals on Wednesday in Nashville, TN, saw the host country, USA, versus Curacao.
Akin to the first match of the evening, the USA vs Curacao contest was a low scoring affair. After a few decent scoring chances early in the match, Christian Pulisic received the ball near the corner on the left-attacking side in the 25th minute, dribbled toward the goal, and sent an almost perfect cross ball to the back post for Weston McKennie to send home with a heat-seeking header.
USA goalkeeper Zack Steffen was stout in goal once again, pitching his third shutout of the tournament despite several strong scoring opportunities from Curacao. In the 84th minute, Curacao’s Leandro Bacuna forced Steffen into his hardest save of the match. Steffen barely pushed the ball over the bar, after a nearly-successful attempt from distance, to maintain the 1-0 lead. The USA won by the same 1-0 final.
